Ever thought you knew what was going on and didn’t? Most people remain in a hypervigilant state. They constantly scan the environment for inconsistencies, prepare for the unexpected, and brace for impact. This leads to hidden sources of exhaustion and at times, overwhelming anxiety that deters the simplest of decisions.
This leads to a misinterpretation of the true reality of a situation. What if how you processed the data is actually backwards?
Bats do it differently. First, bats do not have good vision. They already know that what they see is off. A bat does not navigate by broadcasting a signal and following it. A bat sends out a signal and listens to what comes back. Each returning signal “echo” carries information about its surrounding environment.
It’s not a one time and done. The bat continually updates its understanding of the space and environment it moves through. Bats operate through echolocation.
Have you ever asked someone, after an hour-long talk, to repeat what the two of you agreed upon and it was completely different? Frustrating, right?
One echo is not the whole environment.
You may be very clear internally, seeing the depth of an ocean in crystal clear water. Yet, as soon as a boat (or other person) enters, the water churns with sand and is murky. What was once clear, changes instantly before your eyes. It’s always about what comes back to you that allows for greater depth, understanding, and connection.
In neurodivergent leadership, a highly pattern-oriented mind ignites the patterns and creates rapid fuel to explain what makes the data conform. This capacity is very valuable, dare I say, even exquisite.
The caution arrives as we insert new inputs, information, data into a logic system that no longer provides. As we allow the environment and information to change, this deepens our relationships and we connect greater depth. This is true perception expansion without quality data lost.
This gives a different level of applied discernment to decisions.
This week ask:
- What changes when I let new information change my read?
- What am I still interpreting from an outdated reference point?
Wishing you a wonderful, joyful, and prosperous day!
