Beneath the Surface

Ever get so angry that you literally feel your blood boiling on the inside?

On the surface, Yosemite National Park looks still. Majestic mountains, buffalo roaming the plains, and colorful creeks flowing. Except for certain areas, which appear barren. No green. Just gray/brown rock in a circular fashion. A wild juxtaposition to the other scenery.

In an almost meditative, mesmerized state from the sheer beauty. A little rumble startles you to scan the horizon. The earth continues to gently tremble beneath the ground. Hot water is moving through secret chambers. Heat rises from below. Pressure builds amongst the narrow channels. The system can only hold so much before the unseen becomes visible.

With a snap of a finger, the geyser erupts 145 feet into the air. Covering the barren area with boiling hot water. Eruption not because of chaos, but because the pressure has a path forward.

The eruption is not a problem. The eruption is the reveal, showing what has been building underneath the surface the whole time.

Who's ever felt that way?

A client, upon first contact, stated in graphic detail that at the age of 20, "John" now stood 6 feet tall, at nearly the same height as his father. John's father, after an alcoholic rage, threw his mother into a wall. "John," with glaring eyes, stood up and punched his father so hard in the face that his father required 20 stitches. From that day forward, his father never physically abused his mother or siblings ever again. He further stated that he only told this story to less than 10 people in his entire life despite being well into his 60's.

The punchback and the story-sharing are both boiling points. Sometimes you are on the receiving end of pain, while other times, you give the pain. Neither suppressing your truth nor overreacting is appropriate. How can you stay grounded and present when the pressure rises?

Truth is not always physical pain. Truth comes in all shapes and sizes.

It may be a frustration in a short or long-term relationship.

It may be that you never found a job/opportunity that showcases your true talents.

It may be that social media distraction or video gaming keeps you from dealing with truths you'd rather avoid.

It may be doing a financial analysis of where you spend or invest your money.

What's the delayed truth ready to surface?

When truth emerges, and you decide to do something about it, that's applied discernment. That's trusted decision-making in real-time, not delay.
