The boundaries we set for ourselves can be the most brutal experiment we ever conduct in life.
Forests depict this extremely well. Trees shed branches that no longer receive sufficient sunlight, a process called Abscission. The tree seals off a limb, cutting off nutrient flows. It's clean, efficient, and final. There's no sentimental value that says we put in time and energy into this; I will rescue and fix you.
It’s a clear process. Not everything that grows with you can stay with you forever. It is a simple boundary born to conserve life energy for what still serves its growth and purpose.
As humans, our greatest deception is not what others say about us; it’s what we truly think and act about ourselves. Sometimes we have boundaries that no longer serve a purpose, or we lie to ourselves about what's truly going on.
Maybe your healthy eating is so strict that you no longer enjoy the pleasure and taste of food.
Or, maybe your foodie taste buds get carried away into too many indulgences that affect your health and energy.
Maybe your constant busyness, including fun activities, may aid to your avoidance in facing a closet filled with bad memories, balancing your finances, or even determining your next path in life.
Our unique deception patterns wear clever disguises. Where in your life are your so-called boundaries cleverly disguised?
This week, illuminate the shadows of boundaries disguised as good that no longer serve you.
Boundaries, when enacted properly, breathe life into you.
