Ever come to an obscure crossroad in life, business,or relationships?
You're standing on solid ground. You know exactly how you got to this current spot. The smiles, the pain, the laughs, the heartbreaks. You may even be excited about everything you've learned, overcome, and accomplished. This is different. This is something brand new in front of you.
You've been hiking for three straight days, and then the path ends at the edge of a cliff. Eyes wide open, there's no turning back now.
Not uttering a single word, you carefully scan the horizon. Your thoughts race into how am I supposed to get to the other side? There's a running river between here and the other side. Is this yet another rite of passage?
Staring into the distance, a dense fog emerges. Visibility disappears into a sea of grey and white clouds. The crossing seems daunting.
When in life do you ever see the full picture? Almost never, right?
Between you and the other side is a handmade suspension bridge. No steel beams. No concrete pillars. Only rope intertwined as cables holding and piecing this all together.
Your mind wants to race to fill in the missing pieces. How do I control for a problem that I don't see coming? What if this collapses?
With peak curiosity, the bridge is designed to sway so it doesn't snap into a million pieces with the wind. It’s not supposed to be rigid. It’s meant to be flexible as it stands freely or holds the weight of people moving across.
The bridge does not require you to see the other side. The only requirement is to trust the structure that is already built.
Then you move. Slippery planks beneath your feet. Holding on to the sides as handles, over-gripping, and hurting your hands. You're attempting to overcompensate with control.
Fog happens when we're in the middle of shifting. You're leaving one identity, relationship, or career, yet the new one has not landed yet. There are no guarantees. The outcomes have not materialized yet.
Clarity does not look like certainty.
When the fog covers the span, none of the architecture disappears. The anchors are there, the cables under tension distribute the weight moving across, and flexibility allows the bridge to sway without breaking.
Discernment in fog means sensing the structural integrity.
Walk plank by plank. These small forward movements are the confirmation without seeing the final outcome. This adaptive movement restores trust.
You move from visual dominance to sensory intelligence. You may not see the full destination, yet you attune to the subtle signals that are there guiding you.
